Details of Innovation | Farmers spray cow dung slurry on areca nut seedlings, ash gourd, and pumpkin to save them from being destroyed by pests and monkeys. Areca nut seedlings, when in the nursery stage, are faced with pest menace in the form of spots and small insects. The farmers mix cow dung with water and prepare a slurry. They spray this slurry over the areca nut seedlings once or twice a week. Thus by this method, they can control the pests which attack the areca nut plant. The farmers also use the cow dung slurry to coat the pumpkin and ash gourd plants grown in the backyard of their house. According to them, this is an effective method to control monkeys that attack the plants. Thus the vegetables are saved till they are harvested. |
