Details of Innovation Rats damage crops in the field or food grains stored in godowns. Some farmers of Saurashtra use ‘sindur’ powder to control them. Bread or any other eatable food is kept inside an iron cage. The cage is used to trap the rats. A little quantity of ‘sindur’ (vermillion) is mixed either in water or milk. The mixture is poured on to the one or two rats caught in the cage. These coloured rats are left at the place where the damage was observed. When the other rats see the coloured rats, they run away. This is a traditional practice.

PAS_2 "Famously, birds of prey feed on mice and rats. Raptors, including hawks, owls, eagles and falcons, are common predators. Red tail hawks, found across most of North America, and American kestrels, the smallest falcon in North America, will hunt rats by day. The barn owl, known for its characteristic round and white face, is a common nocturnal predator." https://www.terminix.com/blog/education/enemies-predators-of-rats/
