In 1999, GG-2 variety of groundnut is grown in the monsoon season from which one plant having good growth is selected . This plant was observed till the harvesting to see which one produces good quality seeds as compared to other plants. The leaves of this plant are broader, number of pods are more and larger in size, and resistant to disease and pests. The seeds obtained from this plant were sown in 1991. As a result, one plant gave 150 g of seeds. These seeds were sown in the summer season and finally 5-6 kg seeds were obtained. Again these seeds were sown in the monsoons of 1992 from which 180 kg seeds were obtained. The farmer sold these groundnut seeds and kept only 10 kg seeds. Again he sowed these 10 kg of seeds in the monsoons of 1993 and from 0.24 ha of land, he received 40 kg seeds and from 0.72 ha of land, he received 120 kg of seeds. From this, 10 kg he kept with himself and 4 kg he gave to Gopabhai Govindbhai Sanghani. In 1994, he sowed 10 kg of seeds from which he received 1440 kg production. Evaluation: This variety has been sown and found to be free from disease and pests. Phenotypic characters are superior as compared to other variety of groundnut. |
