| Details of Innovation |
In a scientific way, pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) crop is grown as an inter-crop with the groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) crop. But the farmer followed mixed cropping pattern for this variety. At the time of monsoon season, generally in June-July, sowing of groundnut crop is done by mixing the seeds of pigeon pea variety. Care of both the varieties is taken till the harvesting time. In one hectare of land, 95 to 100 kg seeds of groundnut are taken with 1 kg seeds of pigeon pea and sowed in the field. At the time of maturity, both the crops are harvested separately. The pods of groundnut are harvested first followed by pigeon pea pods. As the pods mature, these are harvested accordingly. By this method, 160 to 300 kg per hectare yield in groundnut and, in pigeon pea, 700-800 kg production can be obtained. The innovator has been using this practice for over three years now. |
