Details of Innovation | It is a good sign that several cotton growers are slowly but surely responding to their predicament. They are trying to find herbal cure for the insect attacks on the cotton crop in the face of these pests developing resistance to insecticides and pesticides available in the market. One such herbal initiative is by Kimabhai Monabhai Rathod. Fundamental to the herbal initiatives is neem (Azadirachta indica), around which the formulation is made. Kimabhai collects the fruit of neem (Azadirachta indica) tree, crushes these to get 100 gram mash, adds three kilogram custard apple (Annona squamosa) leaves and one kilogram worm killer (Aristolochia bracteata) leaves. He grinds them all, and adds ten litres water and one litre neem (Azadirachta indica) oil. He keeps this aside for eight days. After the eighth day, he filters the compound solution through a cloth and keeps the filtrate in a bottle. Take 50 gram of this herbal cure in one-litre pump and sprinkle it on the cotton crop. It kills aphids (molo) and green worms and protects the crop from further damage. This is one way to control aphids and green worms on the cotton crop. The requirements for the preparation of the herbal cure are: One litre neem oil Three kilogram custard apple leaves One kilogrm wormkiller leaves (keedam) 100 gram snuff (Nicotina tobaccum) powder |
