Details
Category Crop Production
Crop Guava
Crop Family Myrtaceae
Scientific Name (Psidium guajava)
Vernacular Name Jamfal

Ingredients Sunhemp (Crotalaria juncea), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare)
Details of Innovation Experiments have been conducted with the sunhemp (Crotalaria juncea) and sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) crop for the control of weeds in guava (Psidium guajava) orchard. On one side, reduced seed rate was kept for sowing and on the other side, sowing was done by using high seed rate. In dense sowing, the distance between two rows were nine inches and between two plants it was one inch. While, in light sowing, the distance between two plants was 4 - 6 inches . In densesowing, there were no weeds due to the non-availability of sunlight for photosynthesis. In light or low seed rate sowing, there were too much weeds. The selection of sunhemp and sorghum were done due to their fast growing habitat as compared to the growth of weeds, so they cover the weeds under the shade. Sorghum is used for the fodder purpose while, sunhemp is used as green manuring crop.
