Details of Innovation With increase in the salinity of soil, the crop production goes down and the quality of soil degrades. Under such situation, cultivate barnyard millet (Echinochloa frumentacea) as a crop. In salt-affected soil, first barnyard millet crop is grown, which increases the productivity of soil for other crops. Cultivating barnyard millet improves the physical, structural and nutritional condition of the soil. Barnyard millet is also used for fodder purpose. This practice is in use from many years. In water-logged condition, barnyard millet can be easily grown while, other crops cannot cultivate. Cultivation of barnyard millet is done in the month of monsoon and after the second rain, the field is intercultured. Cultivating barnyard millet for two consecutive years helps in removing salinity from the soil. Cumin crop yields well in winter season in this soil.
