Details of Innovation Gelabhai Naranbhai Koli is a farmer staying in Kalasar village of Chotila taluka in the Surendranagar district of Gujarat. He suggests the use of mirchi or Capsicum annum for protection of grain from insects, worms, and infections. Small insects often attack stored grain and turn it into useless powder. This happens generally after three to four months in storage pots. Gelabhai Naranbhai powders mirchi or Capsicum annum and keeps it with the grains. He recommends 250 grams of mirchi or Capsicum annum per 20 kilogrammes of grains to be protected from insects. Most people in his village use this method. He has learnt this traditional method from his forefathers.
