Details of Innovation Banidan Mavaljibhai Gadhvi is cattle owner staying at Agat Na Muwada village of Kapadvanj taluka in Kheda district of Gujarat. He suggests the use of leaf extracts of vasaka, swamp cabbage (Ipomoea aquatica) and water as remedy for melomoshi (aphids) and worms in cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba). Melomoshi (aphids) and worms often attack crops of cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) during the monsoon season. The aphid attack on cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) starts after 45 to 50 days of sprouting. The worms destroy the ripe pods and they are not edible anymore. For every bigha, Banidan Gadhvi collects 200 to 300 millilitres leaf extracts of vasaka (Adhatoda vasica) and 400 to 500 millilitres of swamp cabbage (Ipomoea aquatica). He mixes the leaf extracts with 15 litres of water. He sprinkles the solution over the crop. If necessary, he repeats the procedure again after four to five days. He has been using this method for more than eight years now. The required ingredients are handy and the method is economical for protection of choli and cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) from melomoshi.
