Details of Innovation Aphid and whitefly are the important and common sucking pests of all the vegetable crops. They suck the plant sap from leaves and tender shoots of plant, leaving it weak and diseased. They also sometimes act as vector of viral diseases. For the control of aphid and white fly and leaf curl infestation in chilli (Capsicum annuum), tomato ( Lycopersicon lycopersicum), Indian bean (Dolichos lablab) etc., leaves of earleaf acacia (Acacia auriculiformis) are used. Two kiligram tender leaves of this tree are pounded to fine powder. Add about five liters of water and bring to boil. Allow the mixture to cool. The solution is then filtered through a fine cloth and used as a stock solution. Put 500 g of this stock solution in a 10 L pump, shake it well and spray it on the pest-infested crop. The visual results can be noted within 2 or 3 days. The practice has been in use for the last 4 years.
