Details of Innovation | Paddy crop infested with insect pests becomes stunted. Plants show yellowing symptoms and finally turn dark brown, resulting in the reduction of yield. For controlling insect pests in paddy (Oryza sativa) crop, the bark and leaves of "naai" creeper are collected and dried first. This dried material is then taken to the field and burned to generate smoke. The smoke kills the insect pests or makes them numb. This can control about 60% pests in the paddy (Oryza sativa) field. The practice ensures good growth and increased yield of paddy (Oryza sativa). This is a traditional practice learnt from forefathers. It has been widely adopted by the farmers in the Valsad area. |
