Details of Innovation | Paddy (Oryza sativa) crop infested with stem borers shows symptoms like, yellowing, stunting, dead heart and empty silvery penicles. To control such insect pests one kilogram leaves and one kilogram bark of "rogu" plant are grinded/crushed to prepare an extract. Add one litre water to it and allow to ferment for two days. The process of fermentation makes it slightly poisionous and bitter in taste. Add three litre of water to prepare a stock solution. The solution is then used for spraying one acre of area of paddy crop. Two sprays of this solution at interval of 10 days are sufficient to control this pest. The remedy provides 60 % control of stem borers in paddy crop. This is traditional method learnt from forefathers. The practice is in use for the last 5 years and about 10 % people in the area follow this pracitce. |
