Details of Innovation | In cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), "talkeedi", a small red-colored insect infestation occurs. The insects remain in the soil and damage the root of the cotton plant, and gradually killing it. The insects appear more during the monsoons, causing 70 to 80 % damage. For controlling this pest, when watering is done in mid-September-October per acre cotton crop10 kg onion (Allium cepa) is crushed in a washing club, stuffed in a gunny bag, and kept in the water channel. The onion juice enters the farm soil, and its pungency and odor affects the insects. This process has to be done just once per acre of land and doesn't have to be repeated. In a week, the effect is observed. This is a traditional practice. Per acre land, 10 kg onion is the proportion. The bag is to be changed at intervals so that the onion juice reaches the entire farmland. |
