Details of Innovation	Farmer Premjibhai Becharbhai Seta had burnt his fingers by sowing a new plant variety. But he did not lose heart. He sowed a so-called hybrid variety known as "jhakalia" or "purabia" sesame (Sesamum indicum). This sesame gave a very low yield. For better yield, he picked the best plants from the lot and took out their seeds. Within five years, he developed a new variety using new seeds every year. This new variety has now been developed over a period of seven years. Sesame is not muc sownin the Bhumbli area of Bhavnagar, and so new varieties have not been developed there. Premjibhai wanted to take advantage of that and introduce a new variety.
