Details of Innovation	Karsanbhai Shobhabhai Makwana goes by the principle that the solution is in the problem itself. To cure the leaf curl problem in the chili crop, he uses a chili (Capsicum annuum) solution as one of the cure ingredients. He uses three solutions apart from the chili solution, the two others being tobacco (Nicotina tobacco) and lime (calcium carbonate) water. Karsanbhai goes about preparing his three solutions in the following manner: In tobacco (Nicotina tobaccum), all parts of the plant except its roots are used. A powder of tobacco leaf is made and soaked in water for 12 hours. It is filtered and mixed with 250 grams of chili solution already prepared. Then lime (calcium carbonate) is mixed in water and boiled for two hours, and the solution is allowed to settle for six to seven hours. After cooling, the lime solution is removed while ignoring the sediment. The lime solution is then mixed with the tobacco-chili one, and a compound solution ready for spraying is prepared. The spraying is done with a pump. The beneficial effect of the spraying is immediate and can be seen within two to three days. The spraying is to be done daily till the crop is completely cured of leaf curl. This is part of traditional knowledge. The same procedure can be used to nullify blight in the onion crop also.
