Details of Innovation For making saline farmland more fertile, debris of farm and crop is collected. Then it is spread on the field and burned. This burns the salinity of the upper crust of the field. Also, branches and sticks of mesquite (gaanda baaval) (Prosopis juliflora), cotton (Gossypium herbaceum), castor (Ricinus communis), pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) are burned. Thus, debris is put to good use, and land qualityis improved. The farmer has developed this practice. He would cut the thorns of mesquite grown on the fence. These thorns were burned so as not to inconvenience the pedestrians. During monsoons, it was observed that good quality grass and weeds grew in the area where the thorns were burned. (Ashes of organic debris neutralise land salinity because they also contain saline).
