Details of Innovation Ergot disease strikes the ear corns of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) crop during monsoons when seeds start to set in the corns. A sticky glue-like juice comes out of ear corns. This gives a loss to the farmer as the yield decreases. As a preventive measure, the farmers in these parts treat the pearl millet seeds with water. They wash the seeds in water three times and then sun dry them before sowing. This ensures argot-free crop.
