Details of Innovation | To control larvae infestation in pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) crop, especially on its earcons, a solution is prepared by dissolving 300 g jaggery in 10 L water. The entire solution is then filled in a pump and sprayed twice a day on pearl millet crops. This controls about 50% of larvae. The spray of jaggery solution attracts bees and flies, which sit on pearl millet earcons and feed upon the larvae, believes the farmer. Almost everyone in the village uses this practice. The knowledge has been passed down generations. |
