| Ingredients | The leaves of teak (Tectona grandis) or Bastard teak (Butea monosperma) and a string. |
| Details of Innovation | Bhils farmers use teak leaves to scare the birds away. They tie the leaves of teak (Tectona grandis or Bastard teak (Butea monosperma) to a string to make a festoon of dry leaves. This festoon is connected by another string at a mid-point. A man sits on a machan or raised platform and jerks the string. Such a device is called a halan. The noise produced by the dry leaves keeps the birds at bay. Yet another system practised by the Bhils is the use of metallic bells, which are locally called tokra instead of leaves. |
