Details of Innovation Farmer uses citric acid to control the caterpillar pest in the tur or pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) crop. With the onset of pod formation in the pigeon pea crop, the possibility of pest attack also increases. The prominent pest of the pigeon pea plant is the green caterpillar (Heliothis spp). Farmer approximately dissolves 10 to 25 grams of citric acid in 15 litres of water. This solution is sprayed on the crop. This controls the incidence of green caterpillar without any side-effects on the crop. Alternatively, a solution of 10 millilitres of kerosene is mixed in 10 litres of water can also be used as a spray to control the pests.
