Details of Innovation	The use of Ipomea fistulosa is extensive in the area near Valiya (in the district of Bharuch) where these plants can be found in abundance.However, this species is scattered throughout India. It grows on roadsides, low-lying areas and on farm boundaries. In the preparation of the pesticide, 5kg. of the leaves of the Besharam (Ipomeae fistulosa) plant are boiled in a container having 50 lt.s of water till it reduces to half its volume i.e 25 litres. Later 2.5 kg. of leaves are further added and boiled. Then 60gm.s of Zinc sulphate and 480 gm.s of soap are added to the resultant solution before spraying on the crops. The many uses of this plant increase its potential as a herbal product. The herbal pesticide is used extensively in the cotton and pigeon pea crops in the months of October and November.
