| Details of Innovation | Mudhubhai Gohil of Gujarat uses the commonly available custard-apple (Annona squamosa) leaves to protect brinjal (Solanum melongena) and chili (Capsicum annuum) crops from the seedlings stage. His practice is particularly aimed at leaf curl and "damping off" diseases. He takes two to three kilograms leaves of custard-apple and soaks these in 10 litres water. This mixture is then boiled and filtered. The boiled leaves are removed and the solution is cooled. The roots of brinjal (Solanum melongena) and chili (Capsicum annuum) seedlings are dipped in this solution and then planted. This prevents leaf curl and "damping off" diseases that usually aflict the brinjal and chili crops. This is a traditional practice. |
