| Details of Innovation | This is an economical way to protecting the cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) crop. Karsanbhai from Valon village of Surendranagar district makes use of "rohidi" weed for the enhancement of the crop of cotton (Gossypium herbaceum). "Rohidi" is a long weed and it grows in the winter. Black soil and hot weather are ideal for its growth. Most farmers remove it from their cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) farms, little realising "rohidi" is beneficial to their crop. The weed in fact spreads like a vine and protects the soil. It preserves moisture in the soil and keeps it cool. Not only that, it helps in nitrogen fixation of the soil. |
