Ingredients chaff of the (Cajanus Cajan) crop
Details of Innovation After the harvest of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), the first developed pods of the crop are selected for seeds. These are removed from the pods. At the same time, big chaff is removed and petty chaff retained with the seeds. The first seeds, along with petty chaff, is then stored in a drum or granary. In this condition, the seeds are protected from insects. While doing so, it will be much better if ash from the hearth is mixed with the seed, and an earthen pot can also be used to store the seed. The benefit of the practice is that the seed of the pulses so stored do not decay. This practice of storing seed for planting has become a habit with most of the farmers of the Dahod area. (This practice has been rechecked by Purushottambhai B. Patel in June 2004).
