Details of Innovation	Although the finger millet (Eleusine coracana) is known to be hardy crop, it sometimes suffers severe attacks from strange insects. A traditional method prevailing in Valsad region of Gujarat to repel the insects involves sprinkling plain water mixed with a small quantity of waste ghee. Take 5 to 10 litres of plain water. Pour a small quantity of ghee, of either cow or buffalo origin, that has been found contaminated or spoilt and unfit for human consumption. Mix the ghee thoroughly until no oily film is noticed on the surface. Sprinkle this flavored water with a broom over the crop. Finger millet crop thus treated has been found to yield a good harvest.
