Ingredients fresh cow dung, wooden boards
Details of Innovation When foodgrains are to be preserved, an underground pit is dug inside a home or in the courtyard and plastered with a coat of fresh cow dung. After some time, a second coat of cow dung is applied to the insides of the pit. The pit should then be filled up with grain. It is then closed with wooden boards firmly fitted and covered by dried leaves and grasses. This practice preserves the grain intact for a long time. Gangaben Sheikh, of Devgadh village in Surendranagar district, adopts this traditional practice.
