| Details of Innovation | When groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) is ready for harvesting, a difficult chore for the farmers of Surendranagar is to keep foxes away. Foxes are nocturnal animals and visit the fields during nights, causing extensive damage to the crop. According to Govindbhai of the region, almost 70 per cent of the farmers there are adopting a traditional method to scare away the predators from their fields. They take five small earthen pots and tie a small piece of raw leather around each. Keeping them at the four corners of the field and at the centre prevents the unwelcome visit of foxes. There is no need to keep awake all night, which naturally affects usual farm chores the following day. |
