Details of Innovation Depradation is common in pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) crop by whitish moths that emerge in large numbers with the fall of the first monsoon rain in June . Adults and nymphs of "phadka" and "khapedi" grasshoppers infest and feed on leaves and ultimately attack the earhead. Farmers of Amreli adopt the traditional method of spreading discarded rinds of castor (Ricinus communis) capsules in the field to achieve good control over the pests. Patel has been practicing one more method to trap the insects before they are able to do much damage. Drag a large branch of mesquite tree (Prosopis juliflora) over the standing crops infested with the destroyer insects. This controls the insects without causing any damage or adverse side effect.
