Details of Innovation The fruit crops like ber (Zizyphus jujube) and guava (Psidium guajava) are frequently attacked by fruit flies. To control these insect pests, an insect repellent is prepared with the help of following phyto-extracts. The roots of "ruzdo" plant are pounded to extract and filtered for two to three times. The filtrate is then mixed with the milky latex of Indian spurge tree (Euphorbia neriifolia) and crown flower plant (Calotropis procera). Add the leaf extract of betel leaf (Piper betle) to the mixture and used as a spray fluid. The spray solution is then filled in the spray pump and sprayed on the fruit fly infested trees. Fruit flies remain away from the trees because of the strong smell of this repellent and the crop is saved. Care is taken to dilute the liquid enough to pass through spray nozzle. The practice is self-developed and is cost-effective too.
