Details of Innovation Blight or wilt disease in paddy (Oryza sativa) dries up the stalks after first turning the leaves yellow. The disease rapidly spreads from plant to plant and field to field, causing terrific financial losses to the farmers. An inexpensive practice traditionally in use in Kheda district of Gujarat is to immerse dry branches of tree (Salvadora persica) known as toothbrush tree. Padhiar is aware of the traditional method being practiced by almost half the farmer population since 40 to 45 years. Keep the tree mustard branches with dry leaves spread out in the paddy-field for three to five day. The effect of this is to control about 80 to 90 per cent of the yellowing and wilting.
