Details of Innovation Aphid is a minute insect found on the leaves of lemon (Citrus lemon) or on the leaves and pods of Indian bean (Lablab purpureus). It sucks the sap from leaves, pods and fruits of plant and reduces the size of the infested part. While the sticky secretion secreted by insect on the infested part reduces the market value of the product. Aphid is found to cause serious damage to citrus, and vegetable crops like, brinjal (Solanum melongena), chilli (Capsicum annum), tomato (Lycopersican lycopersicum), Indian bean (Lablab purpureus) and pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan). Aphids in citrus and vegetable crops can be controlled by bruning vines of "kudi" (Wringhtia tinctoria) creeper at 4 places per acre in the standing crop. The fumes coming out from burning of vines can control about 70% of the insect pest. The practice is followed for last 5 yr. This is traditional practice learnt from forefathers.
