| Details of Innovation | A I Nadakattin invented this machine in 1985. It can be used to sow seeds of varying sizes while ensuring proper spacing between them. It also facilitates even dispersal of fertilizer/manure along with seeds and is effective in removing the odd bits of mud and residue of grass. It can be handled by a single person. Going by his experiences, he believes that this machine contributes significantly to higher productivity. The seed-cum-fertilizer drill is unique since the equipment has a wooden roller with various sizes of depression to suit the size of the seed. This can be used for coarse grain very effectively starting from jowar to groundnut. The seed drill can be used in black cotton soils very effectively. However, with slight modifications this can be used for other types of soils too. The equipment is very effective in placing the seeds at equal intervals. It is opined that the equipment has a high commercial value. Prominent engineers and technical institutions have evinced keen interest in this machine. In fact, a local engineering college has procured the model for eventual development of a fool-proof machine. |
