Details of Innovation	The problems identified were: 1. All farmers are raising paddy crops more or less at the same time during the season. So there is heavy labor shortage during that period. 2. Yield from transplanted crop is comparatively lesser than direct sowing method. 3. Tillering is more in direct sowing paddy crop attain maturity well in advance i.e., before 10 days in the direct sowing melted. 4. Cost of cultivation through wages for transplanting is saving. With this idea he contacted Mr.M. Gopal who is running a lathe workshop at Mayiladuthurai. Mr. Gopal designed a new direct paddy seed drill. But the dropping of seeds was not in uniform . For that Mr. Gopal provided a convey belt in the pvc pipe. With his idea he developed the direct paddy seed drill. Description of the Direct sowing Paddy seed drill This equipment consists of 5.1/4 long and 1/2 idea PVC pipe which is connected with 2 1. 3/4 long dia iron wheels at their lid. In the middle of the pipe there is one hopper for seed filling. In this PVC pipe 1 cm dia holes were made in circular manner in 10rowsat a internal of 20 cm. In the inner side of the pipe then is a conveyor belt which extends to both sides from the middle. And there is a long T shaped handle for pulling the equipment. While pulling this equipment, the seeds get conveyed from the hopper to holes in the pipe. The seeds were fallen through holes at an internal of 10 cm. 1. This direct sowing method in economic one. ie Rs. 3000/- per acre can be saved for an acre. 2. Seed rate is reduced to 40 kg/acre compared to transplanting method which requires 60 kg/ acre. 3. Damage due to natural calamities is possible when the seed bed preparation is performed. 4. 100% germination. 5. Tillering capacity increased. 6. Yield increased. 7. Un productive tillering usually not at all noticed.
