Tapioca tolerates drought to some extent but now a days water scarcity arises due to low water table, with water not enough to meet the water requirement of tapioca. So he practices drip irrigation. The cost of lay out of drip irrigation pipes for 1 acre is exceeding Rs.25,000 to 30,000 so he has designed a new lay out for drip irrigation which uses minimal investment cost for lay out of 1/4th of length of pipes.
New lay out
In the centre of the field he laid one main line pipe. From this main line, pipe lateral was formulated. This lateral was used to irrigate for two rows of plants. This lateral line was designed for alternate rows. In one hour irrigation was completed. After that the same set of laterals were shifted to the other part of the field supply irrigation on the next row of crops.
In this way, the pipeline actually required for one acre can be used for 4 acres. This the cost is minimized. However, in this model, extra labour cost is incurred for the purpose of shifting the pipe for every alternative row. |
