| Details of Innovation | While cultivating banana farmers usually remove side suckers by using crow bar. Even after removing the suckers the new sprouts will germinate and this process will hamper the vigor of the plant, thereby producing weak bunch. Sri.Subramanian has developed a new method in order to arrest the growth of side sucker in banana. He uses an iron rod tied with cloth in the tip. The rod is dipped in kerosine and flamed with fire. Then the rod is inserted into the selected rhizome region of the sucker where the sprouts of germination are supposed to emerge out. By injuring the area, the sprouts will not germinate and side suckers will not arise. |
