He has 8 acres of cultivable land planted with coconut in 4 acres, forage grass in 2 acres like subabul, Grass Co - 1, and remaining with 2 acres of Paddy suitable for Pisanam season and Sesamum, Cumbu, Maize, Black gram, and Vegetables in summer. Crop rotation has been practiced in pulses without any organic amendments. In the paddy field, he applies 25 loads of compost manure. Cow urine application with water is also made at the ratio of 1:20 during 20 days, 40 days, and 60 days after planting acts as a growth regulator and insecticide. Rice ear head bugs are being eliminated by using Sun hemp (Crotalaria juncea) to fix in the paddy field in 10-15 m spacing interval. It yields about 2 tonnes of paddy grains in an acre.
Animal rearing has been practiced with 12 cows and a bullock used for agricultural operations and insemination. The dairy unit situated in Puliangudi also acts as a field to prepare manures.
He daily lives with a calculation that a single cow yields 10 Kgs. of dung, and for ten days, it yields about 100 Kgs. Along with this, he used to add 1500 Kgs. of Agricultural wastes, 1800 Kgs. of soil, and 2000 liters of water filled in 12 x 5 x 3 feet size pit to produce 3 tonnes of organic composted manure. It satisfies him by providing 800 Kgs. of Nitrogen, 560 Kgs. of Phosphorous, 1050 Kgs. of Potash, and 70 Kgs. of micronutrients. At the rate of organic manures, each cow will produce the same but in an inorganic manner worth Rs.16,000/.
The 12 cows enable him to produce organic manure. To satisfy the cow's needs, producing organic compost, he raises fodder crops on his land. He also owned a bullock cart, two pairs of a bullock, and an Iron plow. He was selling paddy grains after converted to rice to give an additional employment opportunity to labor. Simply it has the potential of employment opportunities to the laborers similar to that of 100 acres of modern farming amazingly within 6 acres area.
Dairy Unit
Country-type cows, 12 numbers give 50-60 liters of milk daily, and the cost of 1-liter milk is Rs.10/- with a profit margin of only Rs.3/- to him. According to him, for better efficiency and success of milk units, each individual should cultivate fodder grasses for their animals. So he used to cultivate field lablab, Agathi (Sesbania grandiflora), and Subabul (Leucana leucochepala) for his animals, rich in protein. Along with these, Fat, Flours, and super filtered liquid of Calcium hydroxide (200 m.l.) is fedded to the animals to extract calcium rich in milk from animals.
He has established 2 Biogas plants with the help of Vivekananda kendra as a Dheenapandhu model of cowshed with a concrete wall. We have to pour the dung in the mouth region. The methane gas generated after decomposition will be conducted through a fuel tube to his house straightly traveling 250 feet.
It yields another 700 liters of cattle fuel waste manure. |
