Milch animal often resists regular milking. It may be due to external or internal injury, hunger or thirst, or due to other reasons like death of its calf, change of milking person, change of place, or change in food. This causes financial loss to the animal keepers. Sometime animal totally ceases to yield milk. To get rid of these problem two pieces of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) is pounded to powder and mixed with fodder. This mixture is fed to animal for four days, one hour prior to milking. This also results in increased milk yield. Nutmeg is cool in nature. Animal allows regular milking.
Nutmeg has sedative properties, which makes animal stand calmly and allows milking.
The practice was experimented on 20 buffaloes. The experiment has found to give positive results.
This is regular practice in the area to milk the animal and is in use for last 10 year. |
