Cryptolepis buchanani (Ganglong, family Asclepiadaceae) is a climbing tree widely used in folk medicine in Southeast Asia. Also its root, stem, and leaves are used for the treatment of bone fracture by tribal people in Arunachal Pradesh. It shows antibacterial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and chondroprotective activities. Also includes pain, disability, and deformity. If the fracture union is not achieved, the patient may suffer long-term disability. |

A bone fracture is a medical condition in which there is a partial or complete break in the continuity of the bone. In more severe cases, the bone may be broken into several pieces. A bone fracture may be the result of high force impact or stress, or a minimal trauma injury as a result of certain medical conditions that weaken the bones, such as osteoporosis, osteopenia, bone cancer, or osteogenesis imperfecta, where the fracture is then properly termed a pathologic fracture. |

Plaster cast – to provide support and immobilise the bone.

| Procedure of Use |
Animal having fracture of bone in the leg becomes out of work and is no able to perform its normal activity. To treat such animal, 500 g of bark of "sagheda" is brought and crushed properly. Add about 250 g of water to the mixture. Mix it well. Drench about 100 ml of this mixture to the affected animal once in a day for two days. Thereafter the fractured leg is tied with a tight bandage. The fracture gets heal up within 15 days.
This is a traditional practice learnt from forefathers.
There is no side effect due to this practice. |
