Precautions
Procedure of Use Prabhakar described a practice in which coconut shell is used to permanently cure swellings of the lower jaw in calves.
Calves often suffer from swellings of the lower jaw due to which they cannot eat. Though modern treatment is available it does not cure the disease permanently. In one traditional remedy, farmers burn the rim of a dry coconut shell and tie it around the neck of the calf. It takes two weeks to cure the swollen jaw, and the cure is permanent.

Etiology Causative Agent It can be caused by an increase in local hydrostatic pressure such as from abscessed submandibular lymph nodes blocking lymph drainage or grass seeds blocking salivary ducts. Most commonly it is caused by reduced oncotic pressure as a result of systemic anaemia and hypoproteinaemia.
