| Procedure of Use |
People of Tamil Nadu use several formulations to cure swelling in animals . Some of the formulations smeared on the swollen region of the animals neck comprise of :
(a) A mixture of wax and coconut oil.
(b) Oil from sun-dried seeds of Butter tree (Madhuca longifolia)
(c) Crushed leaves of Muyal kathazhai, a type of agave.
(d) Steamed and crushed onion. |
| Etiology Causative Agent |
It can be caused by an increase in local hydrostatic pressure such as from abscessed submandibular lymph nodes blocking lymph drainage or grass seeds blocking salivary ducts. Most commonly it is caused by reduced oncotic pressure as a result of systemic anaemia and hypoproteinaemia. |
