Maniben Kodarlal Pandor of Dhamboliya village in Sabarkantha district in Gujarat uses the leaf of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum)to get rid of the ticks, mites, lice and other ectoparasites which may harbour in the skin of cattle.
<p>These ectoparasites harbour in the cattle skin under unhygienic conditions and suck the blood of the host cattle causing irritation to the animal. The cattle brushes itself against tree trunks to ease the itching sensation. Milk production of the animal also decreases. Pandor boils a single tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum)</b> leaf in one litre water. This solution is cooled and then applied on the body of the infected animal. The treatment is given for two days, after which the animals skin gets rid of the ectoparasites. Alternatively the juice of neem (Azadirachta indica)</b> leaves also helps in getting the ectoparasites off the cattle’s skin. |
