"To cure animals suffering from diarrhoea, Rathava Jatanbhai Bhalubhai follows a traditional method using bark of khakhara (Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub.), jambu (rose-apple, Syzygium cumini L. or Eugenia jambolana Lam.) and sag (teak, Tectona grandis L.). He takes 100 g bark of khakhara, jambu and sag, grinds them and soaks the mixture in one litre water for half an hour. He then filters the solution and the paste obtained is given to the ailing animals twice a day for two days. This will cure diarrhoea in animal (Honey Bee 19(2): 8, 2008)." |

Use of thorn apple (Datura metel) and pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) for curing diarrhoea in animal. Frequent stinking watery faeces, weakness, decreased interest in feeds and fluids and distress - these are the some of the symptoms observed in animal affected with diarrhoea. All kinds of animals are prone to this ailment, which occurs due to variety of reasons. For curing this condition, farmer Nanubhai Becharbhai Mavani from Bhavnagar district of Gujarat feeds the affected animal 6 leaves of thorn apple (Datura metel) pressed within the thick chuppaty made of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides) flour at every 4 hours, three times a day for 4 days. This cures diarrhoea in animal and it resumes the normal activities. |
