PAS_1 Ferula asafoetida is herbaceous plant of the umbelliferae family. It is oleo gum resin obtained from the rhizome and root of plant. This spice is used as a digestive aid, in food as a condiment and in pickles. It is used in modern herbalism in the treatment of hysteria, some nervous conditions, bronchitis, asthma and whooping cough. It was at one time employed in the treatment of infantile pneumonia and flatulent colic. The gum resin is antispasmodic, carminative, expectorant, laxative, and sedative. Procedure of Use Use of sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) seeds, asafoetida (Ferula foetida) and Indian bdellium (Commiphora wightii) for curing pus formation in animal. Farmer Zaverbhai Pithabhai informs that to control pus formation in animal horn, he makes a paste by mixing ten grams each of burned seeds of sorghum (Sorghum vulgare), asafoetida (Ferula foetida) and Indian bdellium (Commiphora wightii) and scouring all the ingredients together till it forms in a sticky paste. He then applies this paste on the part of the horn from where there is pus secretion and bandages it. He keeps the bandage for one week for complete healing. Many farmers in this area are following this traditional method.
