Heavy consumption of green fodder or grain may cause bloat problem in animals. Bloat leads to bulging of the para-lumbar fossa and a tympanic sound is heard on the auscultation of the fossal region. The affected animal becomes anorectic and restless, bellows frequently and breathes with difficulty. To treat the condition, Bachchubhai Zala gives tea sweetened with jaggery to the animal. He makes a decoction from a mixture of 500 gram gur and 100 gram tea (Camellia sinensis) leaves boiled in one litre water. This over-sweetened tea is administered to the animal after cooling orally. Technique is used by many farmers in rural Ahmedabad. |
