The oils showed antimicrobial activity (100%) as compared with oxytetracycline (100%), chloramphenicol (35%), gentamicin (81.82%) and penicillin G (57.14%) against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively. Capric acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleaic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid and arachidoic acid as heterogeneous components from Anethum graveolens oils were separated using gas chromatography.

Kanubhai Bharwad takes the animal by its tail to cure it of cold and fever. He takes a mixture of 10 to 20 gram soya (Peucedanum graveolens) and 50 millilitre edible oil and heats it up. Apply the medicine inside the tail-end of the animal. Better still, dip the tail in the oily mixture. By this method, in three to four days, the animal will be cured of cold and fever. Many farmers in villages of Surendranagar district use this traditional practice. In case of cold and fever, the animal keeps off fodder and tends to sit. Its nostrils run dry. The milk-yield of cows is reduced as also work-efficiency of bullocks. The body temperature of the animal goes up." |
