Disease Symptoms / Clinical Signs
Disease Description Bloat is a form of indigestion marked by excessive accumulation of gas in the rumen. Immediately after cattle consume a meal, the digestive process creates gases in the rumen. Most of the gases are eliminated by eructation (belching). Any interruption of this normal gas elimination results in gas accumulation or bloat. Precautions
Procedure of Use Distention of left abdomen is observed in animal affected by bloat. The swelled out abdomen sounds like a drum when tapped with hand. For treatment of this condition female farmer Shantuben Patel from village Jinjka, district Amreli of Gujarat crushes 200 g custrard apple (Annona squamosa) leaves and administers the extracted juice to the animal. As an alternative, she suggests caper plant (Capparius decidua) extract with water. About 20% of the farmers in the village use this medicine. This practice is learnt from the elders."
