Disease Symptoms / Clinical Signs
Disease Description Bloat is a form of indigestion marked by excessive accumulation of gas in the rumen. Immediately after cattle consume a meal, the digestive process creates gases in the rumen. Most of the gases are eliminated by eructation (belching). Any interruption of this normal gas elimination results in gas accumulation or bloat. Precautions
Procedure of Use "Feeding on too much green fodder in monsoon months invites bloat in the animal. Distension of abdomen is observed in the animal affected by bloat and its abdomen sounds like a drum when tapped with hand. As a remedy to treat this condition, Devshibhai Desai of village Bhila, district Amreli of Gujarat boils tea (Camellia sinensis) in water at high flame until only half of the quantity of water is left in the vessel. He then allows the decoction to cool and drenches 100 g of this tea-water to the animal through a drench-pipe. Bloat subsides within one hour."
