Disease Description |
Veterinarians, much like producers, usually don't get excited about lameness problems since the animal usually doesn't die 'and often remains in acceptable condition but losses due to lameness. do accumulate to sizeable amounts. Some of these losses include: (1) decline in milk output, (2) decrease in body weight, (3) decrease in feed efficiency, (4) premature culling of potentially valuable cattle, :and (5) cost of treatment

Procedure of Use |
An animal suffers congestion of leg due to either injury, sprain or insect bite. Due to this it will not be able to walk, stand properly or work. Cows and buffalos do not allow milking also in this condition. As a remedy, Harvantbhai Parmar uses 500 gram false senna (Cassia montana), turmeric (Curcuma longa) and salt. These are mixed with little water and heated. When slightly warm, the paste is applied on the affected part of the leg. The medication is application of the herbal mix twice a day for three days. This cures the animal of congestion in legs. Harvantbhai uses an alternative method also. He takes leaves of peepal (Ficus religiosa) smeared with clarified butter and places these on the affected part and bandages it tightly. Many farmers in Surendranagar villages have adopted these traditional practices. |
