Disease Symptoms / Clinical Signs
Disease Description Retained placenta (RP) is also known as retained foetal membrane or retained cleansing. RP occurs when the calf’s side of the placenta (the fetal membranes) fails to separate from the mother’s side. Separation of the membranes normally occurs after the calf is born (early separation is one cause of stillbirth). RP is usually defined as the failure to expel fetal membranes within 24 hr after parturition. (https://www.thecattlesite.com/diseaseinfo/232/retained-placenta/)

Precautions
Procedure of Use After parturition, the cow or buffalo may involuntarily retain placental material. When this happens, there is a discharge of viscous liquid from the womb. To treat the condition, Karsanbhai Rabari grinds sesame (Sesamum indicum) seed and a gruel is prepared out of it. To this whey is added. About 500 millilitres (two "naal" or twice the quantity of a drench-pipe) of this solution is drenched to the cow or buffalo. This gives relief to the suffering animal. Soon the placenta is released. Many farmers in rural Surendranagar have adopted this method. This is a traditional practice.
