Disease Symptoms / Clinical Signs
Disease Description Retained placenta (RP) is also known as retained foetal membrane or retained cleansing. RP occurs when the calf’s side of the placenta (the fetal membranes) fails to separate from the mother’s side. Separation of the membranes normally occurs after the calf is born (early separation is one cause of stillbirth). RP is usually defined as the failure to expel fetal membranes within 24 hr after parturition. (https://www.thecattlesite.com/diseaseinfo/232/retained-placenta/)

Precautions
Procedure of Use "When an animal suffers from retention of placenta or metrorrhagia, Gokulbhai Rabari uses dillseed grains (Anethum graveolens), thorns of ""sanbordie"", bark of black plum (Syzygium cumini) and jaggery. These are mixed and a decoction is prepared by adding two litres of water and boiling the solution. After cooling, 250 millilitres (one ""naal"") of the decoction is drenched to the cow or buffalo at one time. If the placenta is not expelled after the first drench, say in the morning, then this treatment is repeated in the evening. This is a traditional practice. Different farmers have different practices for nagging animal health problems such as retention of placenta. Most of these reflect the local tradition which is based on the local flora. For instance, Gokulbhai Rabari has in his practice for the particular ailment of placenta retention a local ingredient called ""sanbordie"" plant whose thorns he uses. ""Sanbordie"" may be a specie that constitutes a common genus along with species available elsewhere. It is also possible that nomenclature maybe different in different regions because of variation in language, but all might be referring to the same plant but with different local names. Which is to lay stress on the properties of a particular plant rather than the name. It will, therefore, be beneficial if the emphasis is on the essence (""tattva"") of the plant or thing rather than the name. A searcher need not go far to seek if essence is the pathfinder."
